|Albinaria saxatilis (Pfeiffer, 1846)|
The Cretan Albinaria is a group of endemic clausiliid snails (more than 20 species, WELTER-SCHULTES 1998). Shell grey with reddish hue, densely and prominently ribbed, 10-12 whorls, outline slightly concave at whorls 5-7 giving a pointed apex, basal keel prominent, no dorsal keel, aperture small, margin detached and slightly protruded, lunula almost dorsal. It is also possible (and more likely) that these characters are locally variable and that both forms belong to the same species.
Albinaria is too small (15-18 x 3.5-4.5 mm) to be eaten by humans. It does not live in agricultural crops, and feeding on algae of calcareous rocks, it does not consume any agricultural product. The genus is totally absent in large areas south and southwest of Iráklio (WELTER-SCHULTES 1998), an agriculturally intensively occupied region. Albinaria is also missing in plains without rocks. It lays its eggs on the soil and it belongs to air- breathing land molluscs.

Ciao Nikos, great macro of interesting snail, wonderful colors, splendid sharpness and fine details, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
Hello Nikos - Well captured this Snail from top. I like the way you were managed to capture its shadow(left side, on sand), which is showing us its structure. Well focused with good details. IMHO, I would like to see it in vertically. I think when the pattern of its body and the subject itself placed in vertically, then this composition would work better. Yes, just my opinion....What you have showed us is also very nice. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
nice picture of this snail with good details and lovely naturel colours
thanks gr lou
