Family: Ichneumonidae
Length: Ca 8cm including long ovipositor
Distribution: Europe, Asia, NAmerica
Habitat: Woods, places with rotten wood

It was the first time I have seen this long wasp in our surroundings. Amazing is the lenght of the ovipositor.
I didn't find so much about this species and I haven't found the English name.
It might also be a first for TN.

Another picture in the WS.

Hello Anne,
What an interesting wasp. I've looked on internet to see the use of the ovipositor, impressive. Indeed not an English name. Excellent and beautiful photo. The same for the workshop.

You got it ALL in one frame.
And, to crown your achievement, this is a lovely, LOVELY LOVELY piece of photography work; 500th. of a second. And, your W/S too is fine despite the full exposure of the "ovipositor" being absent.
Fond regards,

A really curious species of Wasp, Anne. The length of the insect is amazing.
A sharp and well composed image and a highly valuable document on TN.

Most unusual and beautiful insect. Excellent capture! The reflected light allows us to see the entire bug, even on the dark part of the BG.

Well done, Anne!
