|This is a juvenile American Herring Gull landing into the surf. I came across this old pic, and thought it fits nicely my recent bird pictures… In this one the sun was directly behind the landing bird, giving a striking shadow effect.|
Herring gulls change their plumage in the first four years of their lives. The adults are white most of the year.

I don't know how I missed this stunning shot, I love it! The gull is focused nicely with opened wings and about to land. The shadow is perfectly shaped and to me is the icing on the cake. Lovely colors and very well composed. Great moment of capture!!
