|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Pond Heron or Paddy bird, it's scientific name is Ardeola grayii. IT is a common marsh bird earthy brown in colour when at rest, but it's white wings, rump and tail flashes into prominence once it flies. In breeding season it acquaires maroon hair like plumes on back and long white occipital crest. Sexes are alike. It's normal method of feeding is to stand hunched up at the water's edge watching patiently and jabbing at the prey once the oppertunity arises. It normally feeds on frogs, crabs, fish, and insects. When the feilds are ploughed it is a feast for them as they can easily find lots of aquatic forms. The nesting season is chiefly May to September.|
In here, You can see a Pond Heron's nest with chicks noisy for the feed.
