With the red, curved rear point, which has much gone of the sting of a scorpion, the male holds the female fixed during the paring. To infer the female, he gives her a drop saliva firstly. Generally the scorpions flies hide themselves on the shade side of a hedge or a small wood. They do not love apparently direct sunshine. They feed there self mainly with dead insects, which they obtain sometimes from a spider web. The female has a sharp rear. The larvae are a kind of caterpillars and are 15 mm large.

Yes this is an interesting shot. I like the composition where the scorpionsfly is looking to thhe bug walking unther. Very atractive shot. I hope you like it too.

Hi Jaap,

Beautiful capture and well done on the composition and details.
Did you wait to see if that bug would have become a meal?

Mike

Hi Jaap,
I don't know if they are frequent where you live, but it's always a nice insect to catch. We don't have many here. It's good you had the back curved like a scorpion tail. They are not always in that position. Very good colors and soft light. Instructive shot.

Hi Jaap,

The last shots with your old canon before your new camera arrives? :) This is a nice macro shot. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Very good macro, Jaap.
Very nice to see a scorpion fly again, they use to be common but not this year, it's the same as it's with the b-flies, a bad year.;-(
Well composed, nice colours and good POV.
Very well done.

Hi Jaap,
this is so impressive, this flies are the most interesting ones for me, but I've never seen a male. I have seen a female, perhaps you have seen my photo here a few weeks ago, but this one is so wonderful and I like the red tail and the pretty wings. You captured a wonderful moment and I want to say thanks to you for this shot, I enjoyed it very much.
Have a nice weekend, Jaap, bye

Goedenmorgen Jaap,

Ik denk dat het prooi zal worden, volgens de houding van schorpioen, opnieuw een pracht geplaatste foto met een balade van kleuren. Ik heb wel het gerief, maar niet de kennis om dit te verwezelijken, u bent een crak Jaap!
Goed weekend gewenst,
John.

Hi Jaap, this is one of the strangest insects I've ever seen. Nice photo of an amazing creature! TFS!

Jaap, maybe I would try to add a little bit of sharpness, but that's just an opinion.

Apart from that, I do enjoy the shot.

Excellent composition, colors, dof and pov.

The bug in the bottom is really a great bonus.

Bonjour Jaap, belle macro de mouche scorpion sous un angle interessant.Note instructive. Peut être un leger manque de piqué sur l'animal!! Mes félicitations Didier.

Interesting capture, the POV makes it this time, gives suspense to the view :)
Not your best details, but very eyecatching. Thanks for sharing and regards, my friend.
