[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have captured this 'Cardinal Woodpecker' in Pretoriuskop, Kruger National Park. It was a bright sunny day. It is the camping area of Pretoriuskop which is surrounded by electrified wire. It was top on a tree and my 70-300mm lens wasn't enough to get a good detail shot. So I cropped a lot

* The Cardinal Woodpecker (Dendropicos fuscercens) is a wide spread and common resident breeder in much of Sub-Saharan Africa. It's a species found in a wide range of habitats from dense forest to thornbush. It nests in a tree hole.

* Length - 14-15 cm
* Color - Dull olive black, marked with white spots;
Underparts are white, heavily streaked with black, and the rump is tawny.
* White throat and face is separated by a conspicuous black stripes, and the fore crown and black nape.
* The small crest is raised when the bird is existed.

Beautiful portrait of Dendropicos fuscercens; It is the first time I see this woodpecker. Nice shot ; Srikumar; you've solved nicely exposure; under the feathers of the face; throat and chest are light gray; and the bird is exposed to full sunlight. Very good work.

Hello Srikumar,
Your Cardinal Woodpecker is very pretty with the yellowish green hues in it's wings. I also like the predominately gray cheeks and breast with some dark lateral markings. Nicely focused and showing wonderful detail and exposure. Good eye contact with a bit of catchlight.
