Nome Volgare: Piccolo argus, Celastrina

Famiglia: Lycaenidae

Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 13-17

Descrizione: Le uova vengono deposte in primavera per lo più sull'agrifoglio, mentre in estate sull'edera. Le crisalidi della seconda deposizione sono svernanti. Si può confondere con Everes alcetas, che però ha una breve coda nelle ap.

Maschio: colore azzurro violaceo con bordo nero.

Femmina: colore azzurro violaceo. Ali anteriori con ampio bordo nero e strie discocellulari nere. Nelle ali posteriori serie di punti marginali neri circondato di chiaro e zona costale nera.

Rovescio: colore bianco, tendente leggermente all’azzurrognolo, con minuti punti neri. Ali posteriori con sfumatura basale azzurra.

Bruco: verde o con toni giallastri, dorsalmente con una serie di disegni triangolari rossastri. Essi danno luogo a fenomeni di simbiosi con formiche del gen. Lasius.

Distribuzione: specie ad amplissima diffusione. Il suo areale abbraccia Europa, Asia e Nordamerica. Nel nostro continente presente ovunque eccetto Scozia e Scandinavia settentrionale. Ovunque in Italia.

Habitat: margine dei boschi e radure dal piano basale a quello montano, sino a circa 2000 m s.l.m.

Generazioni annuali: due con sfarfallamenti in aprile-maggio e in luglio-agosto, terza generazione parziale in settembre

Piante nutrici: Spartium junceum, Euronymus europaeus, Corpus sanguinea, Cellula vulgaris, Frangula alnus, Hedera hellix

A beautiful presentation of this Holly Blue. As a perfectionist, you were able to get good details as well as natural color on its wing. Even I can see slightly blue color in its upper wing. Excellent composition as well as well as perfect OOF BG.
