Nome Volgare: Hipparchia del faggio

Famiglia: Nymphalidae

Sottofamiglia: Satyrinae

Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 31-40

Descrizione: farfalla caratterizzata dal grande mimetismo

Maschio: colore bruno scuro fascia postdiscale biancastra sfumata di bruno, in particolare nelle ali anteriori, ove è presente una macchia subapicale rotonda nera.

Femmina: simile al maschio, ma più grande. Fascia postdiscale biancastra più ampia e una seconda macchia ocellate nera tra le due nervature cubitali.

Rovescio: ali anteriori con disegni simili al dritto ma più chiari. Contorno prossimale della fascia postmediana ondulato. Posteriori con disegni simili al dritto ma più chiari e interamente ricoperte da sottili striature trasversali brune

Bruco: varia dal bruno giallognolo pallido al bruno grigiastro con linee e fasce più scure.

Distribuzione: Il suo areale si estende dall'Europa all'Asia. Presente in tutta Italia, tranne in Sardegna e isola d’Elba.

Habitat: boschi, cespuglietti e radure del piano basale e montano sino a circa 1700 metri s.l.m.

Generazioni annuali: Una sola con sfarfallamento degli adulti in luglio - agosto.

Piante nutrici: Holcus lanatus, Holcus mollis, Brachypodium ramosum, Brachypodium pinnatum., Bromus erectus.

Hello Silvio,
Nice photo of this butterfly in good sharpness and fine natural colours. Personally I should have cropped a piece of the grapes to get more attention on the butterfly.

Hello Silvio,
An interesting shot of this attractive butterfly that appears to be searching for something sweet. I'm sure the grapes provide not only a perch, but are a source of juice as well. Sharply focused and displaying nice DOF due to your f/11 aperture setting.
