I decided to take a walk in the clover field behind the house today to see if any butterflies were active. I've noticed since the temperatures have starting to drop, the butterfly activity has slowed down quite a bit.

The Monarchs are still coming to the clover blossoms, but their numbers have decreased significantly. I spotted a few Black Swallowtails and was fortunate enough to capture this little beauty as it landed momentarily.

Black Swallowtails have a wingspan of 2 5/8 to 3 1/2 inches and inhabit meadows, weed fields, hillsides, ridges and parks. They range from the Rocky Mountains east from S. Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

Hello Ron,
Very beautiful photo and butterfly, this Black Swallowtail. A presentation in splendid colours and superb sharpness. The centered composition works very well here.

A healthy specimen that came your way with its wings spread wide open, Ron. This is my first view of a Black Swallowtail and its unique beauty leaves me spell-bound.
The picture is just perfect in every respect. The pink flower you retained within the frame adds beauty to the composition.

Hi Ron
I have seen butterflies similar to this in Mexico.
This specimen is quite beautiful and elegant, with an interesting and simple pattern and nice blue shades.
