Syritta pipiens (Linnaeus, 1758)
Diptera: Syrphidae
Common name: thick-legged hoverfly

Thick-legged Hoverfly is a member of the family Syrphidae, which holds a number of mostly yellow-and-black, stingless, hovering little flies generally known as flower flies and syrphid flies. It is called Thick-legged hoverfly from its distinctive broad hind femora.

S.pipiens is a fast nimble fliers visiting flowers as pollen feeders. Here in picture it visited Colchicum cupanii flower. I posted another view on WS. Its larvae feed in rotting organic matter.

Very artistic composition, Nikos.
The Hoverfly is in perfect focus and its hind legs are quite thick.
Thanks.

Amazing sharpness, Nikos. The hoverfly is in perfect focus, although the petal in the foreground is a little bit distracting.
