Macaroeris nidicolens (Walckenaer, 1802)
Araneae : Salticidae
Macaroeris nidicolens is jumping spider of family Salticidae which prefers bushes in warm, dry, sunny to half-shaded areas. This is a female 5-6mm long.Several white spots cover the top of the prosoma, one bigger each behind the posterior lateral eyes. Color and patterning can vary strongly in this species. Both sexes have black, curves tufts of hair on the sides behind the anterior lateral eyes.
The species name is derived from Latin, and means "inhabiting a nest".
It is widespread in the Mediterranean and it was dispersed in Germany in 1995 and in S. England 2002 in the process of spreading. Here in picture it grabbed a useful neuroptera, Chrysoperla carnea, on a leaf of Pittosporum sp used as a fence.
I posted another close up in WS |
