The Circumzenithal Arc is a rare optical halo phenomena which appears as an upside down rainbow.

They occasionally can be spotted if you see a sundog, but look directly above where you are standing.

The arc appears as sunlight is refracted by ice crystals of thin layers of high clouds such as cirrus, cirrostratus and cirrocumulus. Or the ground level ice crystals called diamond dust.

Wow. Thanks for this rare image. I have seen rainbows above Mt. Adams on clear days, but never upside down.
