A NEW SPECIES FOR TREKNATURE

The Red-throated Bee-eater is about 24 cm. Sexes are alike.

HABITS
Highly gregarious. Most frequent along the freshwater reaches of the river, where intense feeding activity takes place just after dawn and towards the end of the daylight hours. Forages from high riverside trees and overhanging tangled vegetation. Also visits established gardens and hunts from telegraph wires.

VOICE
A ‘wip’ call of varying intensity uttered continuously throughout the day during all activities. Greeting call is an excited trill.

STATUS AND DISTRIBUTION
Common to occasionally very abundant breeding resident from Gambia/Senegal to South Sudan, just south of the Sahara.

BREEDING
Tunnels in quarries, sandy riverbanks and storm wash-outs. Breeds in closely-packed ‘pepper-pot’ colonies in vertical banks.

Parts of the book: Birds of The Gambia and Senegal by Clive Barlow and Tim Wacher.

Hello Peter,
Congratulation for showing us a new species here in TN. Very well captured and very good quality. Excellent color and details too. I would like to know, if you don't mind.....
(1) How many cameras and lenses have you used in Gambia Trip?
(2)Did you go out with your all Camera and lenses? I can see you used Sigma 135-400mm and Tamron 150-600mm.
(3) Have you used Tripod or mono pod?
(4) How many memory card have you carried during your trip? Or any different way, you preserved you RAW files?
(5) Approximately, how many photographs have you captured during your photography tour?
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Peter, I have been rather inactive on TN for some time and I am glad to see that you are still here. Too many of our good photographers have left. Congratulations with this first species on TN. Quality, as usual, is excellent and it is a real pleasure to view. Well done.

Hola Peter, no conocía esta bella especie, me gusta la percha, entorno, composición, luz y color...saludos.

Hello Peter,
a contribution from you that is wonderful in every aspect.
In its clearness and precision of details, the gentle touch of well shaping light on the bee-eater's very attractive bright coloured feathers, the elegance of its pose with a charmingly turned head, and the superb rhythm of composition with the branch crossing the image diagonally in smooth motion - just superb. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter
