[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While in Israel I had seen this species of bird many times during my twelve day stay. I knew it was a type of crow and loved it's unique markings and color.

I hoped I would have the opportunity to photograph this beautiful bird sometime during my daily outings, but it never happened. On one of the last days of our trip as we were about to board the bus for an outing into Jerusalem guess what happened......this single bird landed next to our bus. I quickly grabbed my camera and this is the shot I got!!!

Hooded Crows are native to Europe and are closely related to the Carrion Crow. The Hooded Crow is a large bird with a length of between 48 to 52 CM. It is omnivorous and like the Carrion Crow is a scavenger.

Nests are many times found on or near the ground where four to six brown-speckled blue eggs are laid. The young fledge after 32 to 36 days. Their life span is unknown, but the maximum recorded age for a Hooded Crow is 16 years nine months.

I will upload another image in the WS.

Hello Ron,
charming portrait, well lighted, well composed and clearly detailed, of this very intelligent and social bird that is a regular visitor even in densely populated areas of Europe. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Shalom Ron,

Lovely photograph of this common Israeli crow. Very nice story, too!

All the best,

Ishi

This is indeed a different kind of Crow, Ron. We have generally black Crows here in India, but this one has got an attractive combination of black and gray. I was in the Middle East for about 7 years but never came across this species in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Oman. In fact, I rarely saw any crows in this region.
Your picture shows the bird in an elegant pose and that endearing catch-light in the eye makes it doubly attractive.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to Israel.

Hello Ron,
Stunning capture of a interesting specie of crow hunted in my country because it is on the predator list killing many small species of birds and nests....
Incredible details and awesome clarity of the feathers.....
