[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Red Colobus are Old World monkeys of the subgenus Piliocolobus in genus Procolobus. Some authors elevate Piliocolobus to a full species, limiting Procolobus to the Olive Colobus. They are closely related to the Black-and-White colobus monkeys (genus Colobus) and some species are often found in groups with the Blue Monkey.
The Western Red Colobus (Procolobus badius) is a species of Old World monkey found in West African forests from Senegal to Ghana. All other species of red colobuses have formerly been considered subspecies of P. badius. It is often hunted by the Common Chimpanzee. In 1994, Western Red Colobus monkeys infected many chimpanzees with Ebola virus when they were hunted/eaten by the same chimpanzees.

The members of this subgenus are found in western, central and eastern Africa, and the species have largely allo- or parapatric distributions. Most are restricted to humid forests, but the Zanzibar Red Colobus prefers coastal thickets and scrub. Red colobuses are highly sensitive to hunting and habitat destruction, and have been referred to as probably the most threatened taxonomic group of primates in Africa. Consequently, if following the below taxonomic treatment, all species except the Central African Red Colobus are considered Endangered or Critically Endangered by IUCN.

Hello Peter,
How could one not be touched by such an innocent and tender moment as this. There is nothing stronger or more moving then the bond between a mother and her offspring. Awesome detail and perfect exposure has been obtained. Beautiful natural colors and the eye contact is captivating!

Hi, Peter. This is a lovely portrait of mother and child Red Colobus or Old World monkeys. The image is sharp, lovely and natural colors with good depth of field. It is indeed a pleasure to see this lovely scene and photograph and I think you are very fortunate. Depth of field exposure and expressions in the eyes are exceptionally captured.
