Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus, (Esper, 1785)
The Anomalous Blue ♂
Turkish Name: Anormal Çokgözlü Kelebeği
Distribution in Turkey: All regions except Southeast Anatolia and the Marmara.
Distribution in the world: Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia Minor.
Living Area: Hot dry stony, bushy areas.
Flight time: Develops in one generation. July to August
Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars feed on, various sainfoins-(Onobrychis Sp.)
Description-Notes: Type locality: Hungary. One of the largest Agrodiaetus blues. Both sexes are dark brown with light brown fringes; female has orange-ringed blackmarginal spots on hindwing. brownish marginal and submarginal spots are prominent and postmedian spotbands are well-develop on both wings. Forewing discodial spot is bolder than the one on hindwing basal spot. Male is the only anamolous blue that lacks an obvious white streak on hindwing; but most females have a white wedge that extends from submargin to the middle of hindwing (rarely to base)
Wingspan: ~30-36 mm long.
The origin of the name: Admetus (Greek: Άδμητος), son of Hermes in Greek mythology, king of Phera city in Thessaly.
Endangerment factors: Polyommatus admetus is in decline due to cultivation, overgrazing and overbuilding of its habitats.
