Dear friends, hello to all of you after a long time and I do hope all of you are well.

I was surprised to see this bird in my region and at my college for the first time and this is my first ever shot of this wonderful bird. I just cannot believe that it intends to nest here, for I spotted it in a hole in the neem tree. I have never heard from my friends about it and have neither seen it before myself but being an avid bird lover, I was able to recognize at first sight. I am happy that it is here and intends to breed here as well.....wow!My pleasure!

The coppersmith barbet, crimson-breasted barbet or coppersmith (Psilopogon haemacephalus), is a bird with crimson forehead and throat which is best known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer. It is a resident found in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Like other barbets, they chisel out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.(Wikipedia)

Hi Syed,it's nice to se you again after long time. And what a great way to come back, this is a surprise for you and a great capture of this barbet,a very sharp capture despite the dark light and bright colors too,i like it! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

In the northern part of our sub-continent, we mostly see Brown-headed Barbet and sometimes the Great Barbet in the mountains of both Pakistan and India. So this is a surprise visit from a Coppersmith Barbet in your region, Abid bhai. Lucky you! Take care of it while it breeds on your college campus. :)
Good to see your work after a fairly long absence, prof.
Regards.
Ram
