[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Continuing the fly theme - but moving away from the wood stack, this shot was taken in the early evening and I was able to isolate the fly against a background of dark shadow. The leaf the fly was on was moving so I changed the setting for the autofocus to continuous and this coped with the breeze moving the leaf slightly.

Manual camera settings, ring flash set to ETTL no tripod shot as a RAW file and processed into photoshop.

The subject is one of the Diptera, but with 19,000 species in 132 families in Europe, and some 152,000 species in 160 families worldwide according to my reference book there is little or no chance of my amateur entomological skills identifying this one to species.

It was quite accommodating and stayed on the leaf whilst I was able to line myself up with the side of the fly to get the maximum focus and a clean background. Cropped in photoshop, with a single pass of a sharpening filter. - Phil.

Hello Phil,
A neat macro photo showing us the unique body features of this particular species of fly. Detail maybe not quite as pin sharp as your previous fly images, but still very good. You did well considering the leaf was moving in the breeze. I like the dark BG.
