Back from bicycling
I found this Small-spotted Lizard, Mesalina guttulata, in the desert steppe near Ksar Ghilane. The animal did not run away when I approached it with my camera. I did many shots and, being a biologist I decided for an experiment (with a control, of course :-) ) to find out why the animal liked me (or my camera) so much. Result: it was not my beauty that transfixed the animal but an orange peel that I had dropped to the ground. After the removal of the peel the animal lost its interest in me.
Southern Tunisia is a really dry country, bordering to the Grand Erg, this vast expanse of sand dunes. Still there are road signs that warn of flash floods in winter.
