Famiglia: Papilionidae

Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 23-32

Descrizione: è una delle tre specie del genere Parnassius presenti in Italia. Caratterizzata da un colore di fondo bianco con venature nere e da alcune macchie nere, la P. mnemosyne è rara e localizzata in radure umide di collina o di media montagna, sia a ridosso delle Alpi che degli Appennini.
La larva si ciba di piante del genere Corydalis. Come tutte le specie del suo genere, è un superstite dell'era glaciale

Maschio: colore bianco traslucido con macchie nere e aree grigie. Area submarginale delle anteriori trasparente.

Femmina: Simile al maschio ma con macchie e aree grigie più estese

Distribuzione: Alpi, Appennini e Sicilia.

Habitat: prati freschi e radure del piano montano e cacuminale, da 600 fino a circa 2200 metri s.l.m.

Generazioni annuali: una con sfarfallamento da giugno a luglio

Piante nutrici: Corydalis cava, Corydalis solida.

And attractive shot of this pretty little white. Every vein in its wings can be seen in sharp detail. I like the point of view and your colors are well saturated and natural. Wonderful exposure in a difficult light situation.

long time no see. ;-) Just popped in this was the first I saw.
A very rare butterfly, even in my country where it lives on maybe 2-3 places.
Good exposure with lots of details and the insect stands out well from the BG.
