[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
You would be surprised to know that this is my first time to capture a real Robber Fly. I had only seen its pictures posted by other photographers here on TN, so I'm very happy to have come across it today morning while shooting a historical monument here in Jammu for display in an art gallery. I had only 18-200mm lens mounted on my camera for shooting monuments and had no choice but to use it in macro mode, which is not really that good, frankly. Anyway, here it is.

The Asilidae are the robber fly family, also called assassin flies. They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short, stout proboscis enclosing the sharp, sucking hypopharynx. The name "robber flies" reflects their notoriously aggressive predatory habits; they feed mainly or exclusively on other insects and as a rule they wait in ambush and catch their prey in flight.

Hello Ram,
Congratulations on your first photo of a robber fly. You're correct, I am surprised to find out that this is your first robber fly photo. Your 200 mm lens has done a fine job of capturing excellent detail of its features. The exposure is great, especially considering the harsh lighting you had to deal with.
Ron
