One of the strangest looking birds I saw while in Tanzania was this Shoebill, also know by whalehead or shoe-billed stork. If I had to guess I would say it was at least 4 foot tall.

We were on our way to Katesh from Arusha when we stopped for supplies by a small body of water. I spotted this strange looking bird in the reeds and went back to the vehicle for my camera.

After a few minutes it had walked out into an opening where I was thrilled to capture this image. All I can say is with a humongous bill like this, I would hate to make this bird mad.

Hi Ron,

A splendid shot of this awesome bird, great focus and clarity of the plumage and beak, with good natural colours. Nice of it to move to a area for a good clear shot and nice background.
Thanks for sharing,

Regards Bill.
