I shot this male Common Red Skimmer aka Crimson-tailed Marsh Hawk 2 days ago on my school campus. It is not a frequently available subject.

Orthetrum pruinosum, the crimson-tailed marsh hawk, is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. It is a widespread species occurring from west India to Japan and south to Java and the Sunda Islands. It breeds in puddles, ponds and tanks. Three subspecies are recognized. A molecular phylogenetics study of Orthetrum dragonflies revealed that Orthetrum pruinosum is a cryptic species.

Hello Ram,
A real eye catcher with striking red color and an attractive diagonal pose. Funny how some species rest with wings held perpendicular to their bodies and others like this one, hold them in a slightly forward position. Your focus is spot on, giving us a great look at its unique body features. Once again your campus has produced an intriguing specimen for you to show off.
