Discovering the natural riches of Costa Rica:
You will rarely see this Jungle Foam Frog (Leptodactylus savagei (Heyer 2005), Rana de Dedos Delgados de Savage, Dschungel- Schaumfrosch. Leptodactylidae) if you don't venture out at night when it's raining. I did so in the neighbourhood of the La Selva Research station at Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí. The frog is easily 18 cm long, it eats other frogs! The members of the family build big foam nests for their eggs outside permanent water pools. The larvae live off the foam for a month.
Technical stuff: I had to use the compact camera with the inbuilt flash because of the pouring rain. The red eye was eliminated in PS.
