Cane toad - Rhinella marina
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A night in Costa Rica :
others might enjoy a beer at the bar, I was going out and listening for strange sounds. "Toctoc, toctoc" announced a Cane toad male (Rhinella marina or Bufo marinus, El Sapo gigante, Agakröte. Bufonidae). It is huge and known to eat "everything", dead and living. It has been widely introduced in tropical regions to fight against pest insects like the Sugarcane beetle. Like all toads, it is armed against predators by a skin poison, bufotoxin, look at the giant glands behind the eye ...
The shot had to be taken with a compact camera and its built-in flash |

Lieber Dieter,

anne
