Chilades (Lachides) galba, (Lederer,1855)
Common Name: The Small Desert Blue
Turkish Name: Akdeniz Mücevher Kelebeği.
Distribution in Turkey: South-eastern Mediterranean basin, Southeastern Anatolia..
Distribution in the world: Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Middle East - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Transcaucasia-Georgia to India.
Living Area: Often hot, dry places with little vegetetation.
Flight time: For a year take place from May to October in several generations.
Food Plants of the caterpillar: Mainly acacias. Caterpillars feed on buds, flowers and fruits of this plant. But also Syrian mesquite (Prosopis farcta)
Description-Notes: Type locality : Lebanon, Beirut. Very small butterfly. Male is violet blue and has broad sooty brown borders; female is brown. Both sexes have a relatively large rounded marginal spot near hindwing anal angle.Both, sexes are gray , with dull brown marginal and postmedian markings; two conspicuous black spots along leading margin of hindwing , and a bold marginal spot ringed with metallic blue near anal angle. Females lay eggs on the buds of a mimosa performed ( Lagonychium farctum ).
So Indeed, it is very like Zizeeria karsandra - Indian Grass Blue but completely lacks the black spots on the forewing underside and has three conspicuous discal spots, and two marginal ones, on the underside hindwings. Resembles Chilades trochylus - Jewel blue but is slightly larger.
Wingspan: 20-22 mm long.
The origin of the name: In Roman mythology, Galba - the king of the Savior of the time of Caesar.
Endangerment factors : Chilades galba is not endangered.

• Jewel Blue – Chilades trochylus (Freyer, 1845)
• Indian Grass Blue – Zizeeria karsandra (Moore, 1865)
• African grass blue – Zizeeria knysna (Trimen, 1862)
• African Line Blue – Pseudonacaduba sichela (Wallengren, 1857)
