The House Sparrows disappeared from my city of residence Jammu 3 years ago. All sorts of views and opinions can be heard about their sudden disappearance - none of them convincing.
I along with my colleagues and students left Jammu on June 3 this year on a trekking expedition to the Himalayas. On the way, we stopped for lunch at a roadside eatery. I was pleasantly surprised to see a pair of sparrows there, chirruping away merrily. I video filmed them to record their voices mainly.
5 days later, I was in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, and staying with my sister-in-law. On the morning of June 9, I woke up to the sound of House Sparrows chirruping outside the room I was sleeping in. I opened the door and went outside to find many sparrows going about their normal routine. I grabbed my camera and shot this male House Sparrow perched on top of the boundary wall. I cannot express in words the joy I felt to see the House Sparrows leading a happy life.
I share today the picture of a bird I thought had gone extinct.
