A Noisy but Pretty Neighbor
Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker (female)
Sphyrapicus varius

Physical Description
The male has a red forecrown on a black and white head and a red throat. Sexual dimorphism between the adults is easily observed as the female has a white chin compared to the red in the male. The back is blackish, with a white rump, and a large white wing patch. The underparts are yellowish and are paler in females. Juvenile woodpeckers retain a brown plumage until late in the winter when it begins to take on the colors of its sex.

I love the colours and composition, Luc! Very good shot of the sapsucker in its natural environment. Congratulations! Michal

Salut Luc,

L'oiseau semble se conforme dans le mimétisme avec le tronc d'arbre est seulement trahi par sa tête rouge...

Excellent prise de vue

What a name for a bird - Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker! The name certainly pricked my attention Luc.
Good light on the bird and the colours and details are great. Bravo!
We're off for a few days and I'll see you when we return Luc, Heading NORTH...
Have a good week.

Yeah Luc, maybe loudy but so beautifull. These birds are extremally hard to capture, you did it very well my friend. I love patterns on its feathers.

Good shot Luc. Nicely composed and very good DOF. I guess it would have been nicer to see see this beautiful bird against a background which does look less similar as the bird itself. Anyway, well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Luc,
What an excellent capture here. The frame filling composition is great. Nice color and detail. She blends into her surroundings very well.
Scott

Nice capture at the point of her spotting you, Luc!

She appears much like the woodpecker species. I would have a difficult time differentiating between the two.

Well captured, wonderful details, great camouflage.

Thank you.

Well captured Luc,
Good colour, detail and sharpness.
Well composed and good exposure.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Luc

This is a great shot. You have composed it extremely well. The light was in your favour and the exposure perfect. Sharpness and clarity are spot on. Nice work. Thanks.

Excellent shot Luc, this picture shows how well camouflaged this woodpecker is in it's natural suroundings. A nice DOF which isolates both tree and bird. Paul :)

Luc, you did great in spotting this. After all, the colors of the bird are very similar to the ones of tree.

Great pov and composition. I like bg too.

I have the feeling the shot could be a little bit sharper, but that's just an opinion.

Bonjour Luc,
Très jolie photo de ce pic! J'aime bien votre composition. Bonne PDC et belle netteté. Merci!

Hi Luc,
this is a wonderful bird and you captured it so nice with excellent sharpness.
This bird never gave me the chance to make a shot, so you were very lucky. Thanks for sharing it with us, bye
