[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Caterpillar of the Pale Tussock Moth (Calliteara pudibunda or Dasychira pudibunda), a fairly common moth in Europe. The caterpillars feed on Quercus, Salix, Betula, Prunus, Tilia and Crataegus. Used to be a pest of hop (Humulus lupulus), when it was commonly grown.

The moths fly in May and June and are attracted to light.

The larva is similar to that of the Dark Tussock (C. fascelina), but is generally greenish or yellow, with four conspicuous tufts of yellow hairs.


Already an older photo of mine that I wanted to share.
For this picture I used a MR-14EX ringflash on the lens and a 550EX flash in wireless slave.

Hans this is just a lovely photo. You use equipment that I would love to experience one day. The results are amazing. The light from the ringflash and the slave give a perfect fill in for this. I do like the frame as well. Masterpiece. 10 Points

Intresting image Hans the details of the feet is amazing and sharpness of the wholeis good, it looks like a book illsration. though to me the colours look a little bleached out by the power of the flash, I know I have already posted a couple of this one. thought the details of the tec used to get the shot is usefull too.

Very good shot! Perfectly sharp, and I love the way the flash has isolated your subject so well. No patches of overexposure either, which is good. My only thought is that the hairs look a little pixellated - how did you resize/sharpen it? Anyway, a useful note and a good capture :-D

Nice little bottle cleaner you captured here Hans. Very clear and shar with very nice colours.The composition with the diagonal stick is perfect and he is really holding on to it. the dark background sets him off nicely.

Excellent picture, it's spot on. I don't like the large frame, I'd prefer more of that beauty to see. But, I guess frames are very personal taste.

Wow Hans, this is a superb macro of the caterpillar. Great POV, colors and details. Well done.

The black background work very well here, the subject is funny, the composition is good. I would have given more space around the cater and the frame though

Fantastic shot Hans. Very clear, and the composition is great.

This is excellent, Hans. The twisted pose to come to a frontal image of the head is very well caught. Perfectly sharp and well in evidence on the black BG, due to good use of the flash. Superb composition.
