Sandy Bay

It took us 35 minutes to drive from Whananaki South of the next beach, Sandy Bay. The roads between are rough and dusty, but Sandy Bay was always a place we remembered and we were pleased to come here again. The beaches are empty right now, apart for a few people, because it is still school time, but once school breaks up, and the campers and holiday makers arrive, this beach is busy!!

This is another of the beaches on the Tutukaka Coast, east of Northland, above Whangarei and below the Bay of Islands. The day was so hot and sunny, with many white cumulus clouds over the land, and it was the wrong time to take photos, between 11 and 1.30pm, but I knew you’d all love to see them . . . so I had to!! More to come. . .

Sandy Bay is one of the most popular surfing beaches on Northland's east coast, in fact a popular venue for surf championships. There is always a good wave at Sandy Bay. In fact it usually has a wave at least a foot or two higher than most other beaches.

But not today!

Tony Foster / Bushman has posted other east coast views of Northland, he is about 100 - 150kms (just guessing the distance) north from Sandy Bay and I recommend you look at them.

Wow, this is a great landscape scene Janice. The sky is marvelous and the rocks are great. NZ is so beautiful ... I so want to go there again!! If it had not been for the people in the frame, this would have been a 10/10, now it's a 9,5/10. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Janice
Very pretty scenery with the combination of river, sea and greenery. Great DOV and wonderful contrasts. I really like the dark clouds too.
Regards Toni

Hi Janice,

Beautiful view and well composed.
O for summer again. brrrrrrr.

Mike

Hi Janice,
It is indeed a bright high sky, but it is still a beautiful seascape. I am leaving the beach, and sitting in a Florida airport as I do this. I won't see any beaches until you post some more.

Great colours, excellent sharpness, a very nice composite. Well done. Thanks for posting.

Hello Janice,

All that white stuff in the sky landed on my grass yesterday, it is so cold, I might go into hibernation!

Great scene and wonderful photo.

Well done and now I will take a mental holiday to your spot there, excuse me while I dream . . . (sigh)

Wonderful seascape Janice! Beautiful colors and nice composition with these clouds. I would like to be there! Here it's cold and we had snow today! Thanks to warm up my day!

Hi Janice

Thank you very much Janice. You make me dream a lot. The last time I saw the sea I was 12 years old. So your pictures make me very happy.

Hello Janice, this is a very nice view. Lovely sky and good exposure. I would have been severly tempted to clone out the two people in the picutre. They always get in the way!
