[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the impala’s Gerhard has requested It is an example of serendipity in photography – stopping to shoot one subject, then ending-up with a completely different one. We stopped to photograph and immature Fish Eagle looking for some catfish in this small pool. This was the end of September in Kruger, before the start of the summer rains, and the water was fast disappearing from the last few pools. These pools are overstocked with barbell – catfish – at this time of the season, and all of them struggling to survive is the little bit of water left. Such pools afford great opportunities for opportunistic birds of prey to feed on the “captive” barbells.
Any way, as I was shooting away at the fish eagle, my eyes were drawn to this scene of the impalas drinking in this pool. The sun was busy rising above the horizon, giving just enough light to get this shot at a very high ISO (640) with some reflection details visible in the water. I love the ambience in this shot, and depending on your monitor settings, this image could either be slightly OE or UE. I have posted a workshop where the exposure is “right” for me on my monitor.

Hello Callie!
WOnderful capture.Lighting, warm calors, pose of impalas, framing, details, reflections on water and composition are excelent.TFS....:-)

Early thirst, probably a hangover, just kidding, Callie! Very efective billabong shot ! Not one but tree Impalas pefectly lined up! I love it!

Hi Callie,
Excellent shot! Three in the same pose on these beautiful animals is great. Your shot has added just enough extra light to be perfect.
Scott

That's a lovely shot!
It has great mood, very warm light and perfect framing.
I like it very much :)

Belle composition. Couleurs un peu étranges sans doute en raison de la faible lumière.

TFS

This is the one! :) I wonder how many times have I witnessed such a perfect sunrise. The golden glow looks surreal. I find this one better than the WS. It brings out nice details in the pool and shows nicer reflection in the water. The glint in the eye is also better. The symmetry and contrasts in this capture makes it special thanx for posting it Callie. BTW - I always enjoy reading your notes.

Wow! A primordial scene from the dawn of time.
Very evocative and strong visual impact.
Congratulations on a wonderful capture.
TFS your amazing photos. : )

Hi Callie,

I really like the composition of this picture. The picture just has the right "feel" about it. I love Impalas, even though they are so numerous. TFS.

Jan-Hendrik

I like the early light, reflection and warm color Callie. Well composed and these three drinking in unison from this POV is an excellent take. Very well done, Thank You!
Someday, somehow before I die, I'm going to make it to Africa. I swear it!

Hi Callie, Very nice work. I think it has a very warm atmosphere and the composition is exceptional. Shame about the fish eagle but this more than makes up for it. Very well done.

Merry Christmas to you and to those whom you cherish, Callie, and thanks for sharing your beautifull pictures. I really believe that it is worth to make it to be in contact with our increasingly small world.
I am at Granby with my father. We have a great time together preparing the banquet to come for Christmas.
Take care my young friend.

Hi Callie,

Excellent shot and well done on the composition. The way they are standing, there's a croc near by.
