I am sure we all know that sometimes we fall in love with our own pictures and here is one to my guilt. It almost makes me cry every time I see it of simplicity and beauty... It sadly reminds me that soon places like this will cease to exist if we donnot act soon, if not NOW and reach out for their protection, they will be gone forever !
On this particular image, I must say am proud of this effect similar to the the canvas of an Oriental shadow theatre, which inspired me to look deeper into this type of photography, one of the very few times when I felt like I truely got out of the camera exactly what I want it, a sunset show casted by absolute shadows, easily recognisible silhouettes in two tones gradually melting away like a visual savana symphony, as there is light and there is dark, there is drama but there is hope ... but maybe I am just too much of a poetical phylosopher now, so here is the boring part:
This image is taken with my Nikon Coolpix 8800, at full optical 10x Nikkor zoom, from a lowered point to emphasize the posture and size of characters. No sharpening was done as the camera behaved impecable, but did redone the light tone color, a bit from a cyan orientes sepia to a yellow oriented sepia, all in Adobe Photoshop 6.0 .
In case it is not recognised, which I doubt it, the bird on the left is an adult male African ostrich. I see I am not the only one who`s theme is the ostrich today, coincidence perhaps but I`ll try my best to present him as the elegant and distinct Goliath of the bird world he is ...
As an ending in a technical note I must say I miss the speed and the feeling of working with film but maybe there is even a cure for that in the wonderfull new world of digital camera.
Happy shooting !

lovely picture. One that I would like to see. Exelent sharpness and contrast

WOW! Radu, this is an exceptional capture. I think it would be safe to say it's our best silhouette shot on the site! It's easy to see why you fell in love with it. Great note and I agree with the underlining tone of it. 10 points.

Need I sa more than that this is going to my favourites!

Thanks for posting

Radu, A beautiful landscape/animal shot. It radiates a splendid atmosphere. I like the silhouettes in the front against the different shades of the moutains.
Greetings, Jan

And I'm glad to see it,really congratulation,Radu, yes,it's very beautiful, and has a strong composition, with your next shot which you creat in a same atmosphere,I must say that both are unique, one by one,...nicely captured and a great work you did.

A picture where no words are really needed. This shot epitomises the African savanah woodland. Well capturted and your presentation is excellent.

Spectacular use of silhouette and natural gradients. Simply a gorgeous composition.

Of all the outstanding shadow photos you have posted so far, this is the one I prefer. I like the simplicity of its well balanced composition, the way both movement and stillness are suggested, its magical tone, its mood. And thank you for writing such heartfelt and interesting notes.

I like this picture, its remoteness and sharp quality! very well captured. i like the light (and i don't usually look for light effects in a photo) but i don't entirely agree with its perfect and seemingly recherche symmetry.

Hi Radu

Excellent composition... and making a silhouette was superb !!!

What a great shot! The silouette, the perfect exsposure and sharpness is wonderful. And I must say - what I enjoy the most is the absolutely fantastic gradiented hills in the background. It gives me chills to se such beautiful colour gradients in landscape pictures. Well composed picture and thanks for a great note!

Excellent photo! I like the 'silhouettes in two tones gradually melting away like a visual savana symphony'. Its grt.
