[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Coots (Fulica atra) are the only water birds with a striking white forehead and beak, and a more thick-set body than most of other ducks. 38 cm.
They live in big groups, and are often quarrelling among themselves. Is diving frequently under water, and flying up out of the water with trampled foot. Sweet water, usually with overgrown banks.

It was late in the afternoon just before sunset. Because of the red evening light the reed in the background was coloured orange and the water was covered with a very tin layer of ice.
It looks that the bird is walking on the water but in fact with every step he made, he was falling through the ice.

Excellent captured with amazing colours and good composed.
Well done and TFS!

I find these one of the most difficult subjects with the 2 oposite colours in the same bird complete black and ultra white, you realy do have to compromise on exposures. this is pretty good there is good details in the feathers and even the beak has too though not quiet as much. the evening light does this image the power of good adding the warm touch. TFS this great image.

Fantastic colours u got here! I agree with Robbrown... its realy dificult to get black and white together on this tiny thing. Congratulations!

Hoi Ruud, prachtige belichting. Wat een goede timing, de rode gloed en de weerspiegeling van het water is perfect. De vogel zelf is moeilijk om er echt mooi op te zetten. Maar in deze compositie is dat ondergeschikt.
Veel groetjes Reina

Ruud, this is very nice.

Excellent shades of red, gret effect upon the water.

I like composition and pose too.

Very nice shot of the coot, the overall exposure is very nice, bringing out detail that's well defined, colors in the water really make the image stand out nicely. :)

Nice shot. Burning red nice background and good reflection. Coot is in great pose - like detective. Excellent sharpness.

The colors are very nice. Like the reflection too. Very well done.

Somehow you have managed to make one of the few bird I don't like look really good. The colours are wonderful.

Hello Ruud,

The amazing colors are what caught my attention in this lovely image, but then I also see this wonderful coot scampering across the ice.

Nicely composed, with sharp details, rich colors, great pov, BG and pose.

Very beautyful colors and good sharpness

Hi Ruud,
Is this guy running away from the fox? Hehehehe...
Interesting background in the reflections in the water, and the low setting sun also gives a special hue to the colour of the bird...
Interesting moment of this capture, adding special effects to the fine result!

Wow! What a nice shot Ruud! The bird is wonderful and you show us nice details, but the autumn colours reflected are really the most amazing point here! Well done!
