[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a photo of an adult female Yellow Boxfish (Ostracion cubicus). They can grow up to 45 cm long. The one on the photo is around 15-20 cm.
Large adults are variable in colour, ranging from ochre to purplish brown. The round spots on the carapace of the smaller male phase being faint or absent, the fins have small black spots and the head is adorned with a bump anteriorly on the snout.
Female are yellow and have many regularly rounded, black-rimmed white spots on the carapace.
Small juveniles are cube-shaped becoming more elongate with age. Their coloration is yellow with round black spots nearly as large as the pupil.
They are a solitary species that always are seeking shelter under overhangs, caves and so on on/in the reef. You’ll find them between 1 to 45 meters depth.
This photo is taken during a night dive at Shaab Sheer outside Safaga. I used my normal flashlight as focusing light for the camera then the external flash did its job to lighten up the fish. I was on 10 meters depth when I took the photo. I always take my underwater photos in RAW mode. This time I converted it with Photoshop. I’ve cropped and resized the photo.
I’m sorry for being a lazy b_s_ard with my comments on your photos, but now on my way for another diving safari and times is something that I have enough of at the moment. Hopefully this days away will result in some nice photos for me to publish here. |
