Ferns at Murrays Bay, Auckland, New Zealand

Today I walked the track around the cliff where I live between the local beaches. It has great views of some of the islands of the the Hauraki Gulf, e.g. Rangitoto, Motutapu, Rakino, the Noiries, and also the East Coast Bays south of Murrays Bay and all the way to the eastern Auckland suburbs too.

It was such a windy day I was lucky to get a few sharp photos of the native plants I was photographing.

I love ferns (did you know that?) all and especially the ferns we have in New Zealand, where they grow in great abundance. We have nearly 200 native species alone occurring everywhere from the coast through to the country’s alpine regions.

Here you can see the wind blowing in the Tree ferns above me. I love the contrast of the green against the blue of the sky.

Hello Janice,
Wonderful capture.POV,colors, sharpness and composition are excellent.TFS

Excellent capture Janice. Great colours and sharpness - plenty of details in the branch and leaves. IMO you could even have cropped out more of the sky - down to the top of the branch. I think it would attract the attention even more to the main subject.

nice view with great colours!
Good details, perspective and composition!

I like the simplicity of the shot and the colors. Nice job. fototab

Hi Janice!

Symbol of New Zealand and your portfolio - fern on blue sky. Very sunny and summer picture. White clouds made very nice composition with leaves. Diagonal line of twig is good idea.

Today was something like first breath of Spring - but it ended soon with frost...

Another nice fern shot Janice,
Good detail, colours and sharpness.
Composition and exposure are good. Good POV and framing.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of the week.

Oh how lovely it would be to see green ferns swaying to the breezes like this...

A beautiful composition, and nice warm image, with sharp details, great blue sky BG and green ferns, great exposure, POV, and BG.

Thank you for spurring us on to spring time thoughts, and this wonderful posting Janice!

Hi Janice,
Wonderful shot, excellent detail and contrast of colours. I'm a big rugby fan so those ferns are a very familiar sight :-)

Hi Janice
Another example how creativity can take an everyday object (not common though) and created a beautiful photo through capturing it at a slightly different angle than what one would normally view it at.
This composition showing the green fern leaves against the cloudy blue sky is great. So are the colours, exposure, sharpness, and details.
Well done and TFS.

I love ferns too, Janice. Next Spring I will take photos of those we have here. Ours are very small in comparaison with yours.

You seem very busy these days.

Merci mon amie!
