|I know it's not a good picture... it was the best capture I've got from the little quero-quero ( Vanellus chilensis ) - he was very fast!!!|
After 42 days nesting, 3 little babies were born...but 2 died on the day before I took this shot. One day after, this died, too. I don't know why. Someone has said parents use to choose one to take care.. the strongest.. and abandon the others... but I don't know if the information is exact. That's the reason I've decided for uploading it: there's no possibility of other capture to share...
This is a crop from full size film scanning. Noise due to scanning.

If each pair of quero-quero successfully raised only one chick per year, the species population would be halved with each generation. Perhaps these chicks were the first brood of an inexperienced mother, who will hopefully learn from the experience and do better next time.

Nunca tinha visto um filhote de quero-quero...!!!! e olha que já vi milhares de adultos em minhas 'andanças'. Foi uma bela 'pegada' - parabéns! Lindinho mesmo.

Carmem, sem dúvida, a foto é digna de ser postada.
É a primeira vez que vejo um filhote de quero-quero. Quanto ao comportamento da espécie, que curioso, caso a informação que você recebeu esteja correta.
