The visitor:
Coccinella septempunctata, Lady Beetle.
Very common.

The location:
Pulsatilla grandis, Hungarian Pasque Flower.
Rather rare.

The well known beetle delivers a good scale to imagine the size of the flower.

E - Hungarian Pasque Flower
D - Grosse Kuhschelle

Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Magnoliophyta
Class: Magnoliopsida
Order: Ranunculales
Family: Ranunculaceae
Genus: Pulsatilla

Taxon: Pulsatilla grandis (Anemone grandis)

15 to 30 cm in height, the flower as shown measures approximately 50mm in diameter.

Pulsatilla grandis is one of the showy spring flowers on dry limestone grassland hills with Pannonian (Hungarian grassland) vegetation to the south and the east of Vienna. The species can be found in uncultivated grassland only. It disappears at once if other herbs are taking over after any kind of fertilization. The flowers appear in March and April. The species is endangered, and severly protected.

E - Sevenspotted Lady Beetle
D - Siebenpunkt-Marienkäfer
A - Siebenpunkt-Marienkäferl

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Coccinellidae

Species: Coccinella septempunctata (Linnaeus, 1758)

Body length: 5 - 8 mm

The Sevenspotted Lady Beetle, Europe and temperate Asia. Repeatedly introduced to North America from Europe for the biological control of aphids. Adults overwinter in protected sites near the fields where they fed and reproduced. In spring, emerging beetles feed on aphids before laying eggs. Females may lay from 200 to more than 1,000 eggs over a one to three month period commencing in spring or early summer. Eggs are usually deposited near prey such as aphids, often in small clusters in protected sites on leaves and stems. Both larvae and imagines are ferociously devouring aphids.

Thank you for looking.

Bonjour, très joli photo. L'image est sharp et la mesure de lumière parfaite. La douceur de la lumière dévoile des détails même dans les ombres. J'aime bien la présence de la coccinelle. Bravo pour cette belle réussite.

The blue flower is wonderful. The DOF is spot on and you have caught it really well and the ladybird adds that little bit of interest.

Hello Peter
An impressive flower harbouring a dainty little beetle and they are both very pretty and well captured.
The composition is excellent, the colours are vibrant and beautiful, the DOF is spot-on, the BG is superb, and the exposure was perfectly managed.
Very well done and TFS.

Loot

Hi Peter.
I have found this beauty again and I am amazed again too. What a cute scene and lovely ladybird on the petal. Its image is reproduced so perfectly as the image of flower. All together they create an amazing composition and produce great esthetic impression. My congratulations. Terrific godsend, my dear friend.
