The Robin that wanted to be a Great Tit..or so.

Actually i was attracting Great and Blue Tits with
this nut/fat-stick but now a robin showed interest
and not only checked the grass underneath but flew
up to the stick and got his share.

The European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a small
passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member
of the thrush family, but is now considered to be an
Old World flycatcher, Muscicapidae. European Robins
and similar small European species are often called

The european robin is a common European songbird. It
is 12.5 - 14.0 cm (5.0 - 5.5 inches) long and it is
known for its pugnacious behaviour despite its small

Robins have a fluting, warbling song in the breeding
season. Robins often sing into the evening, and
sometimes into the night, leading some to confuse them
with the Nightingale. Both males and females sing
during the winter, when they hold separate
territories, the song then sounding more plaintive
than the summer version. The female Robins move a
short distance from the summer nesting teritory to a
nearby territory that is more suitable for winter
feeding. Male Robins keep the same territory
throughout the year.

Robins build a neat cup nest in crevices, holes or
articial sites such as discarded kettles. The eggs
inside a pregnanat female make up over 90% of her
bodyweight. When juvenile birds fly from the nests
thay are all brown in colour and do not have a red
breast. After 2 to 3 months out of the nest, the
juvenile birds grow some reddish feathers under their
chins and over a further 2 to 3 months this patch
gradually extends to complete the adult appearance
(approx times only).

Hallo Thorsten,

dof and framing ,very good ,tfs Greeting Teunie .

Hi Thorsten...
I meet you again... last time it was on TE :))
But here you have very good photos, too.
This one is very nice :)

What an incredible shot of this robin Thorsten.
The colors and the details are superb.
Great POV and BG and love the framing.

Hallo Thorsten,
excellentes Foto vom Rotkehlchen. Sehr gute Bildgestaltung, natürliche Farben und tadellose Schärfe. I wünsche Dir noch einen schönen Restsonntag.

Sehr schönes Bild, Thorsten.
The picture is perfect in every respect.
The idea of using a nut-stick is great, as I notice many of you good photographers using it frequently. I have birds in my compound but they are allergic to my presence even 50 meters away! Maybe I should use the same ploy.
Sorry for trying my rusty Deutsch on you.

Excellent capture of this little beauty Thorsten. Great sharpness and lots of details in the bird. The colours are very good and look very natural. perfect handling of the light. The background is well blurred. Very good composition and I really like the pose and pov. Great job you did here.

lovely picture of a robin. they are amongst my favourite birds. whenever I go to work on our track, I always take my camera withme, becuase once we get worksing, there will alwya be one watching us and that is the ideal chance to capture it.

Also their song is wonderful, full of life and chatter.

I think the detail is your picture is great - liek you said it was missing from mine - and yours all show how it can be sone much better.
I also like the fact taht you are not afraid to include the bird feeding station - so people don't like them in the photos, but they are apart of our gardens and needed for a lot of birds.

Good shot - precise, qualitative and interesting. Detailed elaboration is very good.

Guten abend Thorsten,

I really like this picture. It is crisp and sharp and I like the composition. Very well done.

Hi Thorsten,
This must be your most popular photo and it's easy to see why: sharp image without being oversharpened, natural colours, perfect exposure, pleasing background, outstanding detail in the plumage and nice pose. Well done!

Great shot... Nothing more to say. Good job :-)
Thanks for the information.

Hallo Thorsten,

Sehr schoenes Foto! Danke!

Schoene Gruesse,

Hello Thor, Looking at your nice picture, I understand now why we call it in french "Rouge-Gorge" (translated literally by "red throat" in englih). And I see also from where our American Robin got his name. It is the first time I see the original from the old continent! Your picture is delightful with excellent pov and composition. The blurred bg enhanced very well the bird. And I always like the little sparkle in the eye! Great picture and TFS,

awesome colors, contrast, compostion, exposure, and sharpness. I love your pictures. Very awesome.

Hi Thor,
Look like this is your 'home'. Very nice collection of your photos here. I guess this is the one that I love most. Great shot, Thor.
