California Sea Otter's, like all Pacific Sea Otters, they spend their lives at sea. They never set paw on land. Monterey Bay Califorina is a hot spot to see them, everyone thinks they are so cute and cuddly. Check the canines on that guy .... ! The Otters are tool users, they pick up a stone from the sea bottom and lay it on their chest and smash a shell fish or a crab aginst it so they can get to the sweet meat, nothing like fresh sea food is there?
Hunted to near extinsion by the Fur trade, they are making a come back ... We hope !

From my Kayak, as usual .......... the only way to see the aquatic world ........ unless you want to scuba with great whites ...... !

I think this is the first time I have really seen their teeth like this. Wow.

You really make me wish I live nearer the sea when I see some of your shots.

Hi Scott,
Greta capture. You seldom see those big teeth. Not so cuddley looking with that pose. The light was pretty bright here, but you handled the exposure well. Being in the kayak puts you down close to the water level for a great angle on these shots. Looks great!

Hi Scott,
A great shot, excellent detail and a good clear shot of those canines. I love watching these Otters, especially with their novel use of stones etc. to crack shells with. Amazing creatures. Great work!

Nice teeth !... Great capture of a very exciting moment. Good work ...

Super post and a sight that I am sure many of us will not see in real life. Well done

Ok Scott!

I realize now that I need a kayak...especially since I bought a home on the lake in Lincoln City Oregon. I love this photo...I could not imagine being this close and capturing such a moment. Wonderful that I feel I am in the kayak taking the photo! Please tell me how you are keeping your camera gear dry....seriously....I am on the lake all the time and am afraid to take my gear with me and well...missing some beautiful shots. HELP!

Take care,

Dear Scott
Thank you for showing these lovable creatures. Unfortunately I have never been able to get near one. ( may be I should take up kayaking:-))

I did not realise, their teeth are soo strong. Though on second thought that makes sense when watching them feeding.

The low sun helped you nicely to get this impressive photo, both in sharp details as well as good colours.

Thanks for sharing, and I have added your work to my new theme "under and above the seas"

Good week, warm greetings
