Jackass Penguin with Young

|This is an example of the younger Jackass penguin with its parent at the Boulders outside Simonstown, near Cape Town. They were given their name because they supposedly make a sound like a donkey braying, though we never heard them make any noise while we visited. Note that the young bird has a coat of fluffy feathers. Many were moulting when we visited, presumably on the edge of adulthood.|
