A contribution from the pre-digital-era:
Coenonympha dorus is a small butterfly belonging to the ringlets (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae). It is distributed in south-west Europe: France, Spain, Portugal (see comment of 'phlr') and from only a few places in Italy. C. dorus is found locally and not in great numbers of individuals as is the case for other members of the genus Coenonympha, such as C. corinna (Corse, Sardinia, Elba) or the high alpine species C. gardetta. It loves the sun and dry habititas. The peculiarity of its wing pattern are silver-metallic spots at the margin of the wings' underside.
Wing span about 28 mm.

Slide scanned with "Reflecta silver", 1800 dpi.

Hi Peter
Excellent picture, and a very attractive butterfly which I have never seen (as yet ?)
Well done

Hi Peter,
a "Dusky Heath" or "Velado de negro" - new to the TN collection of over 47,500 postings of wildlife photography! Your image is simple and straight, well composed, technically perfect and very well describing. Even the metallic line that southwestern species shows near the border on the undersides of wings is very well visible here.
Valuable contribution from the past millenium when everybody was thinking twice before pressing the button to take a picture on a slide film of 36 exposures. It keeps up very well with the results of the digital era.
Thank you! Best regards,

Hi Peter,

lovely photo of this species.
maybe you will put some image of the other more common species (corinna and gardetta) as here in romania this are not present.

Hi Peter,
beautifull butterfly captured very well. I like the silver marks which are hard to present.

Hallo Peter,

Excellent picture of this beautiful ringlet! Very good composition and POV! Great work with DOF, the butterfly is very sharp and the BG is nicely defocused. Exposure is also very good! Colors are brilliant and look very natural! The warm brownish colors of the butterfly make a nice contrast with the cool blueish BG. The note is also very informative! A complete post! Congratulations for this work of art! TFS!
