[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I didnít have too much luck photographing birds on my trip to Thailand, well not ones that want to publish anyway. I was there during the build up to the monsoon and whilst the mornings were often fine and sunny, it seemed to be always overcast when I got into a position to shoot something.
Consequently, I was using having to use ISO 200 with low shutter speeds, and as Iíve said before, itís horribly noisy in the S2 and even using noise reduction filters such as NeatImage in post processing doesnít help much.
Anyway, this was the best bird shot I got. Iím not entirely happy with it, but its quite an attractive species and its not too bad.
Itís a Thick-billed Pigeon (Treron curvirostra), a fairly common fruit-eating pigeon found through much of western Thailand. They inhabit most forest types, including mangroves and are around 27cm in size.
I was lucky to get a pair of these visiting a small fruiting shrub in the garden at the rangers house at Bang Pe waterfall. I only managed two shots and this was the better of the too, a male. We also saw it near Patong.

Hi Chris
Since you have done all the nit picking yourself, I won't go into further details as far as that is concerned. I do have sympathy for the problems you experienced and I can understand why you wanted to post this photo even though it does have some obvious shortcomings.
It is a lovely bird and must be one of the most colourful pigeons I have ever laid eyes on. Since I did not have the privilege of seeing this bird before I must thank you for introducing it to me.
Good effort though and TFS.

PS. I appreciated your explanatory notes on conditions and motivation for the posting.

That is a very handsome pigeon, Chris.
The colors are beautiful, and the details are sharp.
I don't think it is noisy.
I just found out that they have come out with a S3 IS.
Do you think this newest version might have taken care of that problem? I have a S1 IS. Do you think it would be worth the upgrade?
Thanks for your opinion. : )
And thanks for introducing me to that good-looking pigeon. : )

Nice bird, Chris.
Great colors and compo but the eye is a little out of focus.

Hello cris, Perfect details BG, POV, great JOB, TFS Kyle

Hello Chris, c'est un pigeon aux splendides couleurs. Great composition, very well done. Best regards, Didier.

Regardless of the softness this is a really cool bird, the wide spectrum of colors on this bird are incredible. Thanks for sharing this Chris. :)

congratulations of your 200th pic on TN ...
very beautiful colorful bird...

it is interesting to hear...
such problem of noise with ISO 200... if you do not crop much, so there can be something wrong with the settings of your cam...

nice shot Chris....

see you .....

Hi Chris,
Technical attributes aside :) a great post of this very beautifully colored bird...Well framed and a great pose captured.
Well done & TFS!

Hi Chris,
A colorful pigeon well observed. This is an attractive picture. May be more contrast in post processing would help. TFS
