[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbird and from the black markings on it's throat I would venture to say a male. The host plant is Cardinal Flower, the wild version. It was taken at a Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary.

A Canon EOS 1D MKII with a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS lens @ 400mm was used for this shot. 550EX Speedlite with a Better Beamer flash extender was used for fill only as it was a bright day with clouds shadowing the sun from time to time.

It's a good trying lesley,
Welcome on TN, welcome with your first photo,
I know it can be done better, but I would that I could take one, like this one, Very good capture, good colours, very good job.

I think this can be difficult to make, such a photo has to be shot fast. It would be better to show the wings of the hummingbird completely freezed, as to see it stpped in mid-air. Very nice composition with the bird towards one side and good colours.

Superbe photo prise en pleine action.
Félicitations Lesley.

A very good capture with lovely colours and nice DoF.
Good details of the bird also.
Even at 1/1000 sec the wings are a blur, they really move!
Very good work and welcome to TN.

superbes couleurs Lesley.
son petit oeil semble nous observer.
tres joli post

Welcome to TN
Very good Lesley
Nice color and good composition.
Well done

Welcome to TN. The details of the head and flower are crisp. It is a very nice try. Considering the speed they flap those wings, the focus shouldn't bother you a lot. Great work.

Welcome to TN.
This is a really good photo af a hummingbird.I personally think that it would be difficult to take a better one, beacause these birds are very fast and nervues.Well done Lesley !!!!!!!!

Amazing shot. I'm very very impresed by this. You've done really well to keep such a sharp focus. The colours and composition are superb.

Excelente colorido, gran encuadre y perspectiva.
Bien hecho!

Welcome to TN Lesley.
Great capture... accordant to your new Mark II. Excellent colorful, great frame and perspective. Well done!

Welcome to TN Lesley a superb 1st image, the scale like feather pattern on the back and tail.Intrest photo details too.

Welcome Lesley to your spiritual photographic home. And what a lovely calling card to slip onto the table! Is it possible to capture the wings of a Hummer completely still while it is feeding, I wonder? They do move fastest of all birds, I believe.
But what lovely composition, colour and clarity.
I know you have many more good pictures to show and you are still improving I hope you'll enjoy sharing your pictures here.
How about creating a Hummers Theme?
Best wishes

Excellent capture with nice colours and good DOF ! Well done !

Lesley, Great shot of this hummingbird. The movement in the wings is very nice. Sharpness and DOF is well chosen. The blurred background makes the bird and the flower standout.
I personally would crop away part of the flower to accentuate focus on the hummingbird. I did a workshop on that. Please let me know what you think.
Greetings, Jan

Amazing capture Lesley - just such one we all dream about to take. Very sharp and detailed with great colours. The blurred wing tips really shows how fast they move the wings - even at 1/1000 they are blurred but it adds some movement to the picture. The clever use of limited dof really sets the bird off in a nice way. Great job.

Lesley, believe me: I do know these fantastic creatures are difficul to be caught. Even though, I'm fascinated about them.

The colors are so vivid here. Excellent POV.
