--- OWL ---

An owl is a member of any of about 220 (222 currently known) species of solitary, mainly nocturnal birds of prey in the order Strigiformes. Owls mostly hunt small mammals, insects, and other birds, though a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all areas of the Earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland, and some remote islands.

Owls are classified in two families: the typical owls, Strigidae, and the barn owls, Tytonidae.

Owls have large forward-facing eyes and ears, a hawk-like beak, and usually a conspicuous circle of feathers around each eye called a facial disc. Although owls have binocular vision, their large eyes are fixed in their sockets, and they must turn their entire head to change views.

Owls are far-sighted, and are unable to clearly see anything within a few inches of their eyes. Their far vision, particularly in low light, is incredibly good.

Many owls can also hunt by sound in total darkness. Different species of owls make different sounds, one of which is the widely recognizable, drawn-out "hoo" sound. The facial disc helps to funnel the sound of prey to their ears, which are widely spaced. In some species, they are placed asymmetrically, for better directional location.

Great night shot of this owl. It is always a wonderful sight to see owls in their natural habitat. The Lighting and details are good as well as POV and composition. TFS,

It's great owl picture.

bellissimo scatto, buona nitidezza,e bei colori, l'unico appunto è il taglio della foto, secondo me eliminando le parti non necessarie la foto migliora, cmq scatto non facile vista la diffidenza di questi animali.

WOOOW What a eyes,and look!!Fantastich shot!!!In all aspects.!

Hello Andrea,
Owls are my favorite birds! Unfortutanely I've seen only owlets! This one is amazing. I like it's eyes. Very interesting that you captured at night and used flash! So you were so close to him! Thank you...

Very well exposed. Great composition and sharpness. Could have been improved slightly by moving the bird out of centre, either when shooting or cropping before posting. Still its a very hard shot to achieve, you've done well.

Hello andrea, Great night shot from this owl, perfct work, great compinsation, TFS Kyle

Hi Andrea, Nice Shot! You captured this owl nicely, even in the dark. Colours, composition and focus is just great.

Your notes are very interesting, it's always nice to learn more about our animal kingdom. Janice
