Friends, I’m getting more and more convinced that microcosms do exist everywhere.
Take, for instance, this little “garden” I have in Riyadh. It is a pathetic little patch of greenery, oval in shape and maybe not more than 100 square ft in all. It has, as of today, an old date palm tree, a young fig tree, three over-mature sunflower stalks, two lantana bushes, a few over-mature mimosa plants, a creeper trying to climb the palm tree, an Indian pepper tree and, of course, a beehive on a branch of the fig tree.
I have many a time shared with you the fact that the mores and norms in Saudi Arabia do not allow people to move out into parks and open spaces with cameras in hand and take pictures at will.
That explains my total dependence on the MICROCOSM within my compound.

Today a small grey bug and a lady bird were spotted in it.
Obviously, I welcomed them with open arms. I photographed them as best as I could; they were in no hurry to go anywhere else. It is terribly hot here and moving about in the open takes the steam out of you. That applies to all including me and the bugs!

Here is the first ladybird I shot this morning at 11.30.
Hope you will enjoy looking at it.

Hi Ram,
Considering you are effectively penned in you keep very busy with your camera. It's nice to see that your microcosm is doing ok and has some visitors. Have you thought of planting specific plants to attract more wildlife? It might make an interesting project.

A nice shot of your visitor, nice and green considering your location. Lovely bright colours and good detail.
Regards,
Adrian
