NORTHEN SAW-WHET OWL
I'm kicking myself for not bringing my real camera. I only had my cell phone camera to take this photo. The photo turned out small but, at least this little owl allowed me to get fairly close. When he saw me he actually came closer, probably thinking I had some goodies.

I visited the Birds Of Prey Facility in Coaldale, Alberta. This facility is a non-profit facility to rescue and re-introduce birds back into the wild when they can. Some birds cannot as they have to much damage done.

I had to get close to take this photo, since this Saw-Whet was behind a cage and I didn't want to get the cage in the photo.

Hand Held
Cropped
Sharpened

I'll have my real camera next time :)

I know how you feel (Yes, you should kick yourself!), I think most photographers missed a big chance the same as you did. At least you had a camera!

Nevertheless, you did manage to get a decent picture of the owl, take consolation in that fact..

Hi Janice! I understand your frustration losing the oportunity to do a great photo with this great bird. I hope that you will return to Coaldale and give the second chanse to this owl! Dan

I think you did a good job, considering the "camera." The subject and composition are good, and the limits are camera-related.

A litte while ago there were a bunch of brits that were posting shots of bald eagles and I thought of Birds of Prey, but it wasn't open yet. You just inspired me to get to it soon (and since it's 15 minutes from home, I've got NO excuse!).

Janice, considering this was taken through a cell phone, it's a very nice shot.

When possible, go back there and take your camera. Since now, I'm hoping the owl will behave so nicely again.

Janice,

Not bad for a cell phone at all! At least you could capture the moment. TFS,
Sheriff

Janice,
Real camera or not; it is a great photo.
Very well presented.
Well composed with excellent clarity for the quality of the
camera you had to use.
TFS.
Best regards,
Mario.
