Skipper Family

The Skippers are a large Family of small, generally orange, brown or rusty coloured butterflies that tend to be heavy bodied and furry – almost moth-like. The wings seem small compared to the body. The slender club-ended antennae reveal that these fuzzy little fliers are butterflies, although some taxonomists do not consider them to be true butterflies.

Many skippers hold their forewings at a 45-degree angle while the hind wings rest horizontally. The rapid darting flight gives them their common Family name.

The caterpillars have a distinctive neck constriction and taper to the hind end. Many species eat grasses while others eat legumes or other plants. Pupation takes place inside a silken web that includes plant debris (bringing to mind a moth’s cocoon) at the base of the host plant.

it's beautiful, I like to see this butterfly from the frontside and his tongue inside the flower. Wonderful, thanks

Hallo Felipe and Cristina,
your picture shows what butterflies (and men) need in these hot days. A clear focus on the proboscis and the flower. But also the antennae show sharp details. These tell us that this species is Thymelicus lineola which has black antenna tips. The similar species Thymelicus sylvestris has brown ones.

Hi Felipe & Cristina,
the details och sharpness is great. Lovely colours, good POV and nice composition. I prefer a little more natural-light balanced with the flash but thats me.
Great work, my friend.

Hello Felipe, where is the 350D :-)) You use the old Sony :-)) It was a good idea because this shot is wonderful. Great colors contrasting well on dark BG. The POV is nice and details are excellent on the head.
Bravo !

Hi Felipe,
WOW! I love the face to face POV here. That is really what makes the shot for me. A more unique composition. Fill flash exposure was perfect. Beautiful vivid colors and sharp detail.
Excellent camera work!

What a character!! Great macro Felipe, it is so sharp and the details are all so good to see. I like seeing the shape of his wings above his head, making them look like a hat! Well captured, TFS

Ricardo
