American Elk

From my recent day trip to Parc Omega, Montebello, Quebec. This elk was crossing a frozen lake. His feet are blurred by the snow carried by the wind.

The following is from Nature.ca:
The American elk was so named by early English settlers, but some people prefer to call it wapiti, its Shawnee name meaning “white rump.”
This impressive-looking animal is second in size only to the moose in the deer family of mammals. The average weight of an adult male is 315 kg, and some individuals attain weights of 500 kg.
In summer, the wapiti’s coat is sleek and tawny brown, with a large buff-coloured rump patch. Elk are the most vocal members of the deer family. The bugling of the stags is a form of challenge and carries for about a kilometre on a clear day. Good swimmers, they can also attain speeds up to 50 km/h in a swift gallop. Once found in the Eastern Townships and the lower Ottawa Valley, they are now restricted to western Canada.

Très jolie image.

I see you opted for a change, as they say a change is as good as a rest, not that we needed one from your amazing owls, but yet again you treat us to a master class in image making. this elk is beautiful, the shadow on the snow adds emphersis to its pose as it bugles. simpley a great capture.

What a beautiful shot of this beautiful animal. Nice sharp details, pretty colours, useful note. I like how the snow is flying around his feet.
Excellent post, thank you so much for sharing.
Happy New Year!

Hello Rene

Great image. Fantastic sharpness. I like the shadow falling on the snow and how the snow is being tossed around his feet. Very nice to view. TFS

Very good composition, it would have been better to leave a bit more space in front.

Amicalement.

Great shot René.
Excellent shapness, exposure and very good compostion.
A very good note too.
Great work.

Points later, out of dimes.

What a beautiful shot, everything is perfect. You've handled the colour on snow background really well, the drifting power snow and snarl adds to the image. Impressive.

Superb Rene. Excellent shot. Great DOF and POV. Very nicely presented. Good job

Excellent action shot and the shadow adds a lot of impact! He looks like he is about to sneeze - either because he is cold or smelling a human.

Very well done and thanks for posting.
