[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is an example of the Longtailed Widow. It is a common to very common resident in South Africa and becomes nomadic in winter. These birds are gregarious at all times, especially in winter. It forages mainly on ground, walking with short steps. Their flight is heavy and laboured on broad wings, and it then perches on bush, grasstuft, termite mound or fence between flights.

The breeding male is black and its tail is extremely long, floppy, and graduated. The bend of the wings are scarlet, bordered below by broad whitish band and it has a whitish bill. The non-breeding male is heavily streaked black above on deep buff, the bend of its wings are orange, bordered below by broad buff band. The primaries are black and the eyebrow whitish. It is buffy white below and streaked dark brown on breast and flanks.

It has broad floppy wings diagnostic in all plumages; short floppy tail diagnostic in female and eclipse male. The female is similar to the non-breeding male with no orange and buff band on bend of wing, but broad buff margins of wing coverts form pale wingpatch. The primaries are brown.

Alternative Names:
English: Longtailed Widow
English: Long-tailed Widowbird
German: Hahnschweifwida
French: Euplecte longue queue.

Anton,

The Composition, POV, detail of the subject, OOF BG and DOF are all excellent. The greatest asset to your pic is of course the "Golden" Lighting. TFS,
Sheriff

Well done, good DOF, colour of bird well captured.
