[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the third and last picture of the Cape Longclaw (Macronyx capensis) or Orange-throated Longclaw as it is commonly known in South Africa. I have posted a previous pictures of this beautiful bird and would like to share this one with you as well so that you can have a view of three sides of the bird. I hope you enjoy it.

The picture was taken in the wild - at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve.

This species is a common resident and has a large range, with an estimated global extent of occurrence of 820,000 km². It is common in moist short grassland, vleis, seasonally flooded grassland; usually without trees where its food is insects and grass seed. The global population size has not been quantified, but it is believed to be large as the species is described as 'frequent' in at least parts of its range. The species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

WOW Anton - a near perfect pic of this longclaw - very good colours, sharpness.

Well done!

Hi Anton,
brilliant shot! Beautiful pose of that pretty bird, and delightful colours against a very well fitting, well structured and softly fading background.
Thank you! Best regards,

PS: Added a little workshop, trying to remove some slight noise on soft parts of BG.

Hi Anton

Have been out of range for internet connection over the last few days. Been in a remote area of New Zealand called The Catlins, so now it is time for me to catch up on what has been happening.

Excellent shot. Well done on everything here. Thanks. -)

Hi Anton,
Outstanding colours and a very fine pose from your feathered friend!
The feather coat is very well reproduced with great textures and fine details...
Strong vivid colours, in a well balanced composition!
Pablo -

C'est toujours un plaisir que de voir des oiseaux moins communs que ceux que l'on voit d'habitude.
Bonne journée.
